AeA has released their NY state technology data report today. The data is from both 2007 and (mostly) 2006 so take it with a grain of salt. New York State remained the third largest cyberstate employing 301,500 with a total payroll of $24.4 billion. New York's high-tech industryexperienced a net gain of 1,600 jobs in 2006.

The report also states that venture capital investments in New York totaled $1.2 billion in 2007, ranking the state 5th nationwide by this metric. Ok, so I get that California is probably 1st but who is second, third and forth? I assumed NY was 2nd, maybe the count includes all VC not just technology.

In a bit of trivia, New York ranks first for employment in the photonics industry with a total payroll of 8,500. We beat California by 1,100!
